A safe place for children in Rodney

By Jade Hawkins on March 15, 2016

Warkworth Women's Centre2The Rodney Women’s Centre is a place where women who have no support, are experiencing stress or trauma, or who need a place to feel safe can go.

And now the centre has somewhere for their children to feel safe and supported, while also having fun outside.

After over two years of fundraising, the Women’s Centre is finally able to complete a community playground and garden for children to play in, while their mothers use the centre’s services.

This is possible thanks to a grant from Harcourts Tandem Realty through the Harcourts Foundation.

Manager Colleen Julian says the Women’s Centre provides things like counselling, advocacy, food parcels and support groups for mothers.

“We are always fundraising and we’ve been trying to get the outdoor playground and garden completed for two years. This grant from the Harcourts Foundation is so appreciated by us and our community.”

Harcourts Tandem Realty owner Nick Langdon says he is proud to support a community group which so obviously does incredible work in the community.

“I’m thrilled that our $1,000 grant is the final amount needed to get this project completed. We are happy to help.”

The playground and garden will be completed in the coming months.
