Operation Underground Railroad
Operation Underground Railroad’s mission is to shine a light to the world on the global epidemic of child slavery. They rescue children from sex slavery, provide survivors with aftercare services, and empower governments and law enforcement agencies around the world in their efforts to dismantle the criminal networks holding these children captive. To accomplish their mission, they focus efforts on rescue operations, aftercare services, and law enforcement training. When developing and executing a rescue operation, they hire highly-trained operatives with Special Forces experience to locate and rescue victims, and work with local law enforcement to arrest and prosecute offenders. An average rescue results in the liberation of 8-15 victims. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. In 2016 there were over 5,000 cases in California alone, many of which involved minors. Trafficking cases often increase in border towns and within immigrant and lower income communities, making Southern California particularly vulnerable. Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) works diligently to empower law enforcement agencies in Southern California to help them better address this issue. This grant helped with funding law enforcement training in San Diego County in October 2017.
