Friends With Dignity

Friends with Dignity (FWD) is a Gold Coast-based, volunteer-run charity that assists survivors of domestic violence. The organisation’s Sanctuary program supports those who have exited the home where the abuse took place, and are seeking to transition from crisis accommodation to a new home sourced via the social or private housing sector. The Sanctuary program does this by using donated domestic goods, and those obtained via monetary contributions, to furnish and equip the new, permanent dwellings accessed by survivors in advance of their arrival to provide a welcoming and nurturing space. In doing so it aims to contribute to the reduction of the numbers of individuals who might otherwise return to the household where the abuse occurred. We are getting over 50 emails a day with the community offering donations of used and new household goods, which we need a truck to collect and deliver to our warehouse and then to deliver these items when we are outfitting Sanctuaries. Having our own vehicle will reduce the amount we are now spending on hiring a truck to achieve this.

Queensland $5,000

Treasure Boxes Inc.

Treasure Boxes is a 100% volunteer-run South Australian Not For Profit organisation that provides vital, essential items to families living in severe disadvantage, keeping high-risk infants and children safe and thriving. Items such as cots and bassinets, car restraints and baby capsules, linen and bedding, clothing, highchairs and prams are some of the goods we provide free of charge for those in need. The support of the Harcourts Foundation will enable Treasure Boxes to purchase industrial shelving and storage boxes for their warehouse site, as well as industrial fans, that will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of its services to the community and create a safe environment for our volunteers. An appropriately fitted-out warehouse will assist Treasure Boxes goal to increase their support from 1,950 babies and children in 2019 up to 5,000 in-need children in 2020.
