Donation to local schools will enable children’s learning

By Jade Hawkins on November 30, 2020

Three local schools and a kindergarten are the lucky recipients of a donation made towards improving facilities and learning materials from Harcourts Gold Star (Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach), all made possible through the Harcourts Foundation

Waihi East School will purchase a large shade sail to complete the deck area. This will provide shade for the children during the hotter months, and some protection from the elements during the wetter months.

Ms Briar Scott (Principal), Greg Sheppard (General Manager, Harcourts Gold Star) and team presenting the staff and children at Waihi East School with the donation towards their new shade sail, made through the Harcourts Foundation.

Waimata School will replace the school sandpit shade cover. This will not only allow children to play safely shaded away from the sun during summer months, but it will also provide shelter from other weather conditions year-round.

Thames Coast Community Kindergarten will replace the roof on the main part of their kindergarten building and install additional roof insulation. This will bring the insulation level up to recommended standards and help make it easier to keep the kindergarten warm for children during the winter.

Moanataiari School will purchase reading books enabling young readers with lifelong learning success. Through the purchase of a selection of fiction and non-fiction texts students will be stimulated, inspired and engaged.

Greg Sheppard (General Manager, Harcourts Gold Star) and team presenting the staff and David Brock (Principal) and children at Moanataiari School with the donation towards new books, made through the Harcourts Foundation.

David Brock, Principal of Moanataiari School said, ‘This funding will assist with gaps in resources, and is ideal for reading programmes addressing the needs of the school. These added resources for the reading room will give children access to text they don’t have at the moment’.

Greg Sheppard, General Manager of Harcourts Gold Star said, ‘These schools and kindergarten are close to my heart. My kids attend school and pre-school so it’s like giving back to my own community directly. In fact, the entire team are really invested in ‘giving back’ where we possibly can’.
